Dr Mark Muhlmann was born and raised in Perth Australia.
He attended medical school at the University of Western Australia where he graduated with honors in 1998. His internship and residency was at Royal Perth Hospital.
He completed basic surgical training in Perth and then travelled extensively gaining more experience as a Senior House Officer in Surgery in London and the north of Scotland.
Returning to Australia, he completed advance general surgical training in Perth and Adelaide. Further subspecialist colorectal surgical training was obtained at Fremantle Hospital, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, Auckland City Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
Since 2010, he has worked as a consultant colorectal and general surgeon in both public and private practice in Sydney.
He provides services in all aspects of colorectal surgery with a special interest in minimally invasive cancer surgery utilizing both laparoscopic ad robotic surgery. He has a collaborative approach to work and is an active member of the Prince of Wales Colorectal Cancer Multi-disciplinary Team. As well as maintaining a busy clinical practice, he is very active in surgical education and research.
He is currently the Network Director of the Eastern and Greater Sydney Surgical Skills Network. He maintains an interest in research and has over 20 articles published in peer reviewed journals.
Outside of medicine, he runs marathons and spends time with his wife and 2 daughters.
