Graham Newstead is a Colorectal surgeon, with significant surgical experience, and with specialised expertise particularly in all aspects of Proctology, including Anal and Rectal problems and especially the management of Haemorrhoids, Fissures and Fistulae.
A/Prof Graham Newstead was instrumental in the formation of Colorectal Surgery as a specialty in Australia and beyond, in the establishment of the Sydney Colorectal Surgical Society, the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand and the International Council of Coloproctology, in which he is Chairman.
He was involved in the introduction of colonoscopy services to the Australian community and, for many years, in the promotion of Awareness programs and Screening for Bowel Cancer prevention, through Bowel Cancer Australia for which organisation he is on the Board as Medical Director.
His activities in the International Council of Coloproctology have been responsible for the training of colorectal surgeons in developing countries, the provision of outreach services internationally and has assisted with the introduction of Bowel Cancer Programmes in multiple countries.
Professor Newstead has been and remains, a teacher, educator, researcher, mentor and public awareness commentator, all in the interests of prevention and care in the management of colorectal disease.
