Dr Kim-Chi Phan-Thien

Dr Kim Phan-Thien specialises in minimally invasive and robotic techniques for the management of colorectal and pelvic floor conditions.
Dr Kim Phan-Thien graduated with honours from the University of New South Wales and completed her surgical training and colorectal fellowship through Liverpool and St George Hospitals.
Kim’s clinical practice encompasses colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and anorectal pathology. She has a particular interest in sacral neuromodulation for incontinence, as well as minimally invasive and robotic techniques for the treatment of colorectal conditions.
To provide wholistic care for her female patients with endometriosis and functional problems of the pelvic floor, she collaborates with Endogynaecology and Urogynaecology specialists. As a member of the St George Pelvic Floor Unit, she helps manage colorectal problems affecting women during their pregnancy and following delivery.
Kim has a Master of Surgery from the University of Sydney and is currently completing her PhD. She has been an invited speaker and chaired sessions at scientific meetings. Her recent research collaboration in Lynch syndrome led to the Cancer Institute NSW Premier’s Award for Excellence in Translational Cancer Research.
Kim has a passion for teaching, and has been the Director of the Southern Surgical Network of Training. She was awarded Supervisor of the Year for NSW in 2015 by the Academy of Surgical Educators of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, and was recognised as the Best Consultant Teacher of 2016 by the University of New South Wales.
Kim is a VMO Colorectal Surgeon at St George Hospital, and has appointments at Hurstville and St George Private Hospitals. She consults at Kogarah, Hurstville and Miranda.
